Welcome to bennettfarkas.com, and thanks for stopping by!
I have determined that there are basically two types of people in this world; those who are “dot to dot” brained (factual, mathematical, practical people) and those who are “squiggly brained” (abstract, artistic). Ever since my beginning, I have been the latter. As I have matured into my artistic ways, I have pieced together ideas of how I came to be at this point and why I have a strong desire to be an artist. I have concluded that I am wired in a certain way and placed in an environment that has helped me form into an individual who digs in search of true power and beauty using art as the shovel.
My decision to be an artist has been directly influenced by the environment that am growing up in. My dad has been The Director of Creative Arts at Fellowship Bible Church ever since I can remember, He recently stopped working there, and is now heading up a non profit called Create Nashville, an organization committed to educating the community about art and culture and how they weave together. He has greatly encouraged me; always urging me to become all that I can be. He sees my potential, and is always pushing me to it. He is always asking me questions that make me think about who I am, what I am, and why I do what I do. I have also been blessed with several artistic friends. They have been stellar sources to bounce ideas off of, and gain inspiration from. My environment has greatly impacted my desire to be an artist.
Aside from environment, there is another major element that encourages me in my artistry; the profound power of art as communication. Art has an intense power to persuade. Wether this persuasion is meant to challenge the viewer’s outlook on an aspect of life, or give new insight into a subject, it is always there to make the viewer question and believe. Art possesses the power to help people see the world differently and can be so profound to a life changing point. Very few other mediums possess this power. I enjoy the opportunity to change how people see things at a core level.
Lastly, it seems that our culture has lost the fundamental moorings for its definition of beauty. The tendencies of cultural relativism are diluting our understanding of what true beauty is. I believe that there is a core source of beauty and that the most meaningful art and the most penetrating communication comes from a place of intimate understanding of the physical and the divine and the story that is woven in between the two. I look forward to using my skills as a communicator and an artist to create a culture that is more uplifting and inspiring than the one we live in today. I believe that we all, as artists, possess that power.
I am searching for beauty and trying to achieve meaningful communication through my camera.
Lets create something together.
